Education Dept. Shared Student Data With F.B.I.. Does this bother you?

“Under the program, call Project Strike Back” “The Federal Education Department shared personal information on hundreds of student loan applicants with the Federal Bureau of Investigation across a five-year period that began after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, the agencies said yesterday.”

"Corky" – I've passed full background checks. These intrusions bother me as a citizen, and if you knew some history about the FBI and secret files, it might disturb you too.
The information on student aid applications is very extensive and includes income, education, and occupation of parents and all SSN numbers.

If the information was gathered with out a warrant, yes it would bother me.

Every time you open a banking account they run your name against a watch list. The credit bureaus are cooperative with homeland security. What else is new. Until we get a new king it is not going to change.

That doesn't bother me. They were only looking for isolated cases in which suspected terrorists may have applied for loans. It doesn't look like they found any and closed that investigation.
The students themselves at no time were considered possible terrorists. They were only looking to see if terrorists had borrowed money for student loans.
I am disturbed by the amount of money spent on homeland security. I don't buy into that argument that since there have been no further attacks since 9-11 that Bush is doing something right.
