Take it from me...I used to be a cop. Get your degree and use it for good where someone will PAY you for ALL the crap you have to deal with...politics, whiny women who refuse to leave their abusive spouses, people doing drugs to "cope", people yelling back and forth b/c one or the others dog crapped on their lawn..... you don't want all that. Use that degree for something else.

But if you insist....most departments (good ones anyway) will tell you to finish college before getting hired (some actually want degrees now). Working shift work and trying to go to college is tough, but it can be done. I did it.....with a kid and a sorry spouse who kept getting fired from his law enforcement jobs....so, I'm sure you can do it too. Good luck and keep this mantra in your head when you become a cop, "I'm going home tonight (today)!"
References :
More than likely, the local department who patrols the college area will wait until you are out of college. Main reason is that they might be worried that you might "cut slack" to your fellow class mates. And if your a full time college student, you more then likely won't have the time to attend a full time police academy. Best thing for you to do is complete your schooling and maybe sign up and do ride-along with your local department if they offer it so you can see first person what officers do.
References :
NC Law Enforcement

As long as you are 21, meet the departments standards and can get through the testing process you'll be okay. I've never heard of a department that wouldn't hire a person who is college. Of course they would rather hire you as a college graduate.
References :
20 years law enforcement
